Mission Statement

The Riegelsville Historic Committee's mission is to collect, document, restore, preserve and interpret the rich history and culture of Riegelsville, PA and its links to surrounding communities.  The Historic Committee is dedicated to preserving the rich history and heritage of the community for furture generations.  It uses historical buildings and collections to enhance awareness of and educate others about the importance of local and regional history.  The organization will seek private donations and public grants to support its objectives.

Committee History

The Riegelsville Historic Committee  (RHC) was founded in March 2006 as a sub-committee of the Riegelsville Public Library (RPL).  It is a volunteer organization chartered to collect, catalog, preserve and protect historical resources donated to the Riegelsville Public Library.  The Library recognizes its responsibility to preserve and make available these collections.  The main focuses of the Committee are collection and preservation; historical awareness and education, and  membership

Collection and Preservation

The RHC seeks to collect, catalog and preserve historical resources donation to the Riegelsville Public Library through archival processes and secure exhibition methods.

Historical Awareness and Education

The RHC will engage the public in participating in historical events and historical collection programs.  Some of the ways this will be accomplished will be through contributions to the quarterly Riegelsville Newsletter, the development of a rotation schedule of exhibits in the Historical Room of the Riegelsville Public Library, and a historical reference library  to be housed as part of the special collection.  The RHC will also create a Historic Walking Tour and conduct oral history lessons for the public.

Membership

The RHC seeks to generate public interest through group initiatives and projects.
